Top 5 Favorite Illustrators | 03. Joao Paulo Alvares Ruas
Ruas is taking over the Fables cover illustrations in the wake of James Jean, which is a damn hard act to follow. His work has a similar atmosphere to it, so it’s difficult not to compare the two. Surprisingly though, I find myself being more drawn to his work than I am to some of James Jean’s stuff. (Also I’m not nearly as crazy about Jean’s recent fine art work. Also also Jean is getting a little overhyped right now, everyone and their brother worships him at school, so I’m trying to branch out.)
ANYWAY THOUGH. I really love Ruas’s sketchwork, probably even more than his finished pieces. However, he’s got a great talent for dramatic lighting in some of his finished pieces.
